Unsere Geschichte
De brouwerij is een initiatief van Gijs van Wiechen en de Amerikaanse brouwmeester en bioloog Stephen Grigg. Die brouwt - als hobbybrouwer - sinds 1992, eerst in Amerika en later in Engeland. Van Wiechen benaderde Grigg voor het brouwen van het jubileumbier van Kafé België in Utrecht. Van het één kwam het ander en samen starten zij Brouwerij De Kromme Haring. Het tweetal heeft een voorliefde voor het gebruik van Engelse mouten en Amerikaanse hopsoorten. Kortom: het beste van twee werelden. Bovenal hechten zij veel waarde aan de controle van het vergistingsproces en maken zij gebruik van minder bekende en gebruikte (wilde) gistsoorten.De brewpub van De Kromme Haring is gelegen in het voormalige industriële Merwedegebied in Utrecht-Zuid. Het proeflokaal opende in september 2016 haar deuren. In december 2016 werd de brouwinstallatie geplaatst. In de in 2016 geopende vershal, vestigen zij zich onder andere naast een koffiebrander en bakkerij . De herontwikkeling van het voormalige industriegebied Merwede was op dat moment al een tijd in volle gang. Door herwaardering van deze plek zou Utrecht een verbinding weten te slaan tussen centrum en meer achteraf gelegen wijken als Kanaleneiland en Leidsche Rijn.
